I just received from Nilton Maia the first album (a 10′ Lp) by Lyra de Xopotó. This album was posted originally on our friend The Trackfinder‘s site, but the link has expired a long time ago and The Trackfinder could not re-upload it due to a serious problem, so he was referring a visitor who asked for a renewal of the link to Parallel Realities, where he thought it might turn up.
The Trackfinder was right as three months after his comment here it is:

“The band was born from the Radio Program Lyra de Xopotó in 1954, created and presented by the broadcaster Paulo Roberto at Rádio Nacional and was directed to stimulate the music bands in the country.  The program was broadcasted on Saturdays, had the Maestro Lyrio Panicali as the main arranger and a dialog between Paulo Roberto and Mestre Filó, a fictitious character represented by the comedian/musician Jararaca.  As the program became a success, the band (composed by musicians of Rádio Nacional cast) started recording.

The first record was released by Sinter, in 1954, with the dobrados Capitão Francisco Senna Sobrinho and Sonhador, both composed by Lyrio Panicalli.
In 1960, the band released a last album with the dobrado São Paulo Quatrocentão, by Garoto and Chiquinho, and the marcha Me Dá Um Dinheiro Aí, by Ivan Ferreira, Homero Ferreira and Glauco Ferreira.  With the ending of the program at Rádio Nacional, the band ended too. It recorded ten 78rpm’s and a few LP’s.”

Me recordo quando nas noites de sábados, na minha infância – e lá se vão sessenta anos! – ficávamos o pé do rádio a ouvir a ‘Lyra de Xopotó’ pelas ondas da todo-poderosa emissora brasileira Rádio Nacional-RJ dos anos ’50: o apresentador Paulo Roberto fazia os comentários, citações e anúncios e, depois, emergia a voz de Jararaca, o ‘Mestre Filó’, que ‘entrava em cena’ dizendo:
“… pois que de qualquer banda, temos a banda, porque aqui ninguém debanda… é UM… é DOOIS… é JÁÁÁÁ!!!!” e a Lyra de Xopotó (ou outra banda convidada) ‘colava’ um número musical.
Tudo indo ao ar ‘ao vivo’…

This soundtrack was originally posted on Loronix, but Zeca‘s copy had an error: Both sides of the LP were the same. Until now the missing side B remained missing…
Thanks to the combined effort of Leandro owner of the blog Vinylmania – The Best of Vinil who found the album and ripped it, Pedro who did the tracks separation and sound filtering and 300 discos, who organized it all and sent the package to this parallel realitity, we are in the position to finally enjoy the complete album.

Everything you always wanted to know about actress and singer Mary Goncalves (but were afraid to ask), you can read in English here:

Mary Goncalves is primarily a movie actress who made a try on a career as a singer in the 50’s that was terminated some years before.
Convite ao Romance is one of the first records released by the legendary record label Sinter and features a pretty young Johnny Alf at the age of 22, playing piano. Mary Goncalves was responsible of recording the first Billy Blanco composition in 1951 and Billy provides two songs in Convite ao Romance. The vocal trio As Moreninhas (Bidu Reis, Odaleia Sodre and Zeze Gonzaga) are in charge of vocals and Maestro Lyrio Panicalli is in charge of the important mission of making arrangements.

Informações sobre Mary Gonçalves:
Mary Gonçalves é o nome artístico de Nice Figueiredo Rocha, nascida em Santos em 25 de outubro de 1927.
Mary iniciou sua carreira como atriz de cinema. No início da década de 1950 foi contratada pela Rádio Nacional e com o destaque de suas atuações, foi eleita no concorrido concurso de Rainha do Rádio em 1952, com uma votação de 744.826 votos.
Nos anos 40 e 50 participou de diversos filmes, a maioria da Atlântida, como “Gente honesta“, “Não adianta chorar“, “Cem garotas e um capote“, “Está com tudo“, “Fantasma por acaso“, “Asas do Brasil“, “Vidas solitárias“, “Não me diga adeus“, “Barnabé tu és meu” e “O petróleo é nosso“.
Estreou em disco em 1951 pela gravadora Sinter, e em 1952 lançou por esta gravadora o LP “Convite ao romance“.
Como cantora de voz suave e interiorizada, gravava um repertório mais romântico e coloquial, e assim, incluiu no repertório deste disco as canções do então novato compositor Johnny Alf: Podem falar, O que é amar, Estamos sós e Escuta. São as primeiras gravações de composições deste renomado artista, que também participou do disco tocando piano.
O LP contém também duas composições de Billy Blanco, compositor que Mary já havia lançado em disco em 1951, com a música Rotina.
Embalada por este sucesso inicial, Mary tentou seguir carreira como atriz de cinema em Hollywood, mas não obteve o êxito esperado.
Em 1954 passou a gravar pela Odeon, mas ainda na década de 1950 abandonou a carreira artística e foi viver na Colômbia.

Clara Nunes com Lyrio Panicali & Orquestra – Insensatez / A Felicidade – Compacto (1968 a parallel reality)

The last few days I have been listening to lots of Brazilian orchestras. The absolute top (so far) is Lyrio Panicali and his Orchestra with an LP from 1968 (can be found on loronix together with several other of his masterpieces).
I am playing it over and over for days.
A pleasant surprise for me was also that Clara Nunes performs two songs: Insensatez and A Felicidade, in my opinion the best music she has ever recorded.
Curious that these songs were not recorded as a compacto. In our side branch of parallel realities at least…
So I took the obvious route.
A travel through other realities revealed one in which a compacto with those two tracks was released and packed inside the cover displayed above.
