The Expolosive Orchestra for the first time on Parallel Realities.

Regardless if you are scratching your head engulfed in dilemmas about who, when, what or why, I will not direct you to the linear notes, which are full of “Who has not heard the popular song …?” and similar, explaining only why the text is unsigned.

I will redirect you to the  FICHA TECHNICA fine print at the bottom of the page instead, which clearly states that the Maestro is Astor Silva and that the musical direction is by Moacyr Silva.

The names of the musicians performing these compositions is, so far, a mystery:

01. You Only Live Twice (John Barry / Leslie Bricusse)
02. Can’t Take My Eyes Off You (Bob Crewe / Bob Gaudio)
03. Release Me (Eddie Miller / W. S. Stevenson)

O Grupo E Coisa E Tal (1971)

Copacabana CLP 11640

O Grupo for the first time on Parallel Realities.

The group consist of:

Quartin: Órgão, Piano, Vocal
Renato: Baixo, Vocal
Roberto: Bateria, Vocal
Márcio: Saxofone, Flauta, Clarinete
Carlinhos: Guitarra, Vocal
Jaime e Maurício: Ritmo, Vocal

Arranjos Instrumentais: Alberto Arantes

Coordenador de produção: Moacyr Silva

O Grupo (in this formation at least) has only this one album and one compacto in their discography but there were three other groups in Brazil with the same name, out of which one O Grupo with their only album released in 1968 for Odeon could, maybe be the initial O Grupo, consisting of 4 musicians) which got transformed and became another O Grupo with a different cast. The fact that leads to that conclusion is that a Jaime and a Maurício can be found in both O Grupos (rhythm and vocal).
Plus, the sond of both O Grupos is similar.

You may read more about O Grupo and their music on both covers of this LP inside a text about them, written by Sergio Bittencourt.

The remaining two O Grupos I will not mention further as the confusion is confusing enough as it is.

Enjoy:

01. Socorro (Fred Falcão / Arnoldo Medeiros)
02. Vera Verinha (Maurício Duboc / Carlos Colla)
03. Yarabela (Toninho Horta)
04. Lá Vai Ela (Eduardo Souto Neto / Sérgio Bittencourt)
05. Canção Para Inglês Ver (Lamartine Babo)

Meia Noite No Meia-Noite – Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto / Cópia e Seu Conjunto (1958)

Todamérica LPP-TA-312

The absolute highlight (from my point of view) of the newest package which arrived today from Pedro & 300 discos is the long searched for ultra-rarity by Moacyr Silva and Nicolino Cópia alias Copinha: Meia Noite No Meia-Noite recorded back in 1958, featured on my Santa Claus list two times (once under each artist’s name).

Similar atmosphere to the one year before released 10 Inch by Luiz Bandeira Cantando No Meia Noite do Copacabana Palace and the one year later released Prelúdio de Amor by Nicolino Cópia, the masterpiece presented today features Luiz Bandeira (on one track, backed by Moacyr Silva) and Cláudia Barroso (on one track backed by Nicolino Cópia)

The side one of the album, performed by Moacyr Silva, as well as the side two by Nicolino Cópia are included uninterrupted, as well as split into separate tracks:

LADO 1:

01. My Funny Valentine (Richard Rodgers / Lorenz Hart)
      Intérprete: Moacyr Silva

02. Portrait Of Jennie  (J. R. Robison / G. Burdge)
      Intérprete: Moacyr Silva

03. Tangerine (Johnny Mercer / Victor Schertzinger)
      Intérprete: Moacyr Silva

04. Recado de Olinda (Luiz Bandeira)
      Intérprete: Moacyr Silva
      Participação: Luiz Bandeira

05. Encontrei Minha Amada (Arlindo Marques Júnior / Roberto Roberti)
       Intérprete: Moacyr Silva

06. O Apito no Samba (Luiz Bandeira / Luis Antônio)
      Intérprete: Moacyr Silva

LADO 2:

07. Unforgettable (Irving Gordon)
      Intérprete: Copinha

08. Believe In Love (Paul Francis Webster / H. Gietz)
      Intérprete: Copinha

09. What Is This Thing Called Love  (Cole Porter)
      Intérprete: Copinha

10. Não Adianta Chorar (Eduardo Patané / Almeida Rego)
      Intérprete: Copinha
      Participação: Cláudia Barroso

11. Flamengo (Bonfíglio de Oliveira)
      Intérprete: Copinha

12. Pé no Jacá (Hélio Marinho)
      Intérprete: Copinha

Probably you have rightly guessed that I am not able to restrain myself from pointing out that track 10 Não Adianta Chorar sung by Cláudia Barroso is spectacular and makes it even more difficult for me to find a logical answer why Cláudia has not continued her collaboration with Copinha.

Louis Cole e Seu Sexteto – Uma Noite No Vogue (1955)

Rádio 0021-V

This album I planned to post yesterday, but due to a shocking problem about which I will write in a special post, it appears today.

I have never heard about Louis Cole, a North American singer, who was the crooner during a period of about  six years in the boite Vogue, until yesterday when this live recording of a Vogue evening arrived on my HD thanks to Anonymous & 300 discos.
Louis Cole is accompanied with the finest musicians one can imagine, their names are at the bottom of this post…

Enjoy the atmosphere and music as much as I did last evening playing these tracks over and over again:

Louis Cole is singing the songs in English. The songs in Portuguese are, fortunately, sung by Zezinho.

The package uploaded on DЕPОSIТ FILЕS contains the Lado 1 and Lado 2 as complete sides without pause, as well as the 12 individual songs, so you may play it the way you prefer.

Bob Fleming – Brasa Jovem Vol.1 (1966)

Musidisc XPL-46

The pressure is growing daily. Complete albums are deleted from servers and posts removed by blogger because of just one song (according to the explanation). For example, Marisa Gata Mansa’s A Suave Mariza LP has been deleted and the post removed from Parallel Realities because one composition is composed by Carlos Lyra…
Most Maysa’s songs are reason enough for file removal etc etc.

So please, if you see a removed link here, do not ask for a re-post.

Morale of this story:
If you think twice before downloading, bear in mind that tomorrow you may be advised to make your download yesterday.

Now back to the usual routine:

Another never before on the net Bob Fleming album, sent to us by Anonymous & 300 discos.
A Bob Fleming, different from the Bob Fleming posted yesterday.
While on the previous (No Cinema), Bob Fleming was identified as Zito Righi, this Bob Fleming release is identified as not by Zito.
Unless there is a third Bob Fleming or even a large group of Flemings, we can safely assume that this time it must be Moacyr Silva hiding his true name, while performing for Musidisc.

A curiosity: 8 songs out of 12 are by Јоhn Lеnnоn & Раul MсСаrtnеу.

01. A Volta (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos)
02. Capri C’est Fini (Hervé Vilard / Marcel Hurten)
03. O Meu Primeiro Amor (You’re Going To Lose That Girl) (Јоhn Lеnnоn / Раul MсСаrtnеу)
04. Mexerico da Candinha (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos)

Elizeth Cardoso – A Meiga Elizeth Nr. 3 (1963)

My excuse for the inconvenience to those who have in vain searched Toque for this LP. Let’s hope that they have found other interesting music on this great site.

Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto – Sax Sensacional! Nr. 2 (1961)

I have read somewhere that Moacyr Silva admired Coleman Hawkins very much. Coleman Hawkins was by coincidence my favorite sax player from the moment I bought and listened to his “Night Hawk“. That was some 35 years ago. His career albums I managed to collect in a great number, but almost all of them had a similar conceptual defect: One fabulous cool track, then another one or two where he proves that he is a virtuoso by playing a hard to perform composition. then another relaxed track and so on. Enjoying Coleman was impossible without frequent jumps to the gramophone in order to skip the nerving tracks.
Moacyr Silva does indeed have a touch of Coleman‘s sound, but without imitating him in any way and without any pretentious manner that is a must for “artistic” albums made in the USA. From the first to the last composition Moacyr is relaxed, self assured, a real gentleman without any need to prove anything, least of all that he is a virtuoso, which he is, by the way. His playing has the sound of personality.
A big THANK YOU to Zeca for presenting Moacyr Silva to us all. Here is a re post from his site loronix of Moacyr Silva and his conjunto. Second album in the series called Sax Sensacional!
More about this LP is inside the first post.

Marisa com Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto – Convite a Musica (1958)

I know that nobody will be surprised that I am re posting from loronix Marisa Gata Mansa again, especially in conjunction with Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto.

Elizeth Cardoso – A Meiga Elizeth Nr. 5 (1964)

Elizeth Cardoso recorded a series of five albums titled: A Meiga Elizeth, numbered from 1 – 5. It is all produced by Moacyr Silva, and his sax is very prominent on some tracks. According to Zeca‘s text written on the original post on loronix (and reprinted inside the first comment), it is strongly suspected that the organ is played by Walter Wanderley, hiding his identity under a false name and a fake British lord’s title.
.
The performers are all neatly listed on this release:
.
Elizeth Cardoso (voice)
Moacyr Silva (sax tenor)
Sir Walter Scott aka Walter Wanderley (organ, piano)
Papudinho (piston)
Heraldo do Monte (guitar)
Rildo Hora (guitar on track 11)
Chou Vianna (bass)
Arrudinha (drums)
.
The compositions are also lined up in the following manner:
.
01. Saudade Esperança (Alcyr Pires Vermelho / Jota Júnior)
02. Poema Em Paz (Armando Cavalcanti / Victor Freire)
03. Deixa Chover (Dunga)

Mara Silva – Sucessos em Teleco-Teco (1962)

An interesting samba album by Mara Silva, backed by Moacyr Silva and his conjunto. Lots of questions and few answers about Mara
Why did she record just this one album?
Was she married to Moacyr Silva or related to him as they share the same family name (or artistic alias, maybe?).
There are some more but…
Anyway, neither Zecalouro who posted this on his blog, nor Edson Mendes who contributed wrote more information inside the text on loronix (which is, as usual in such cases, replicated here inside the first comment).
Maybe someone knows more and is willing to share his knowledge…
.
While eaten with curiosity and unanswered questions, take five and enjoy the atmosphere of this LP, Mara‘s singing and Moacyr‘s conjunto and orquestra sounding great while performing these songs:
.
01. Tudo Cabe Num Beijo
02. Frio Em Minh’alma
03. Alguém Me Disse
04. Desesperadamente
05. Rosa de Maio
06. Pecado
07. Vereda Tropical
08. Quando o Tempo Passar
09. História de Um Amor
10. Não Digo o Nome
11. Tão Somente Uma Vez
12. Tarde Fria
.
Arrangements: Maestro Diogo PachecoPachequinho

EDIT: I just received an answer to voiced and unvoiced questions about Mara Silva.
Edson Mendes has been so kind to send me her biography and discography in Portuguese. You can read her biography below and the discography is inside the second comment.

Elizeth Cardoso & Moacyr Silva – Sax Voz – Compacto Duplo (1961)

Actually I had another release planned today, but upload problems made me change my plans. Convenient with this compacto duplo, where one side is sung by Elizeth Cardoso accompanied with Moacyr Silva e seu conjunto, while the other is pure instrumental by Moacyr Silva (in my opinion the most pleasant sax player to listen to I have ever heard) is that it links well with the previous post…

Bob Fleming – Dance com Musidisc Vol 3 (196_)

Here is another album by my favorite sax player Moacyr Silva, performing once more under the false name of Bob Fleming.
I am still asking myself why he went undercover once again… Was he hiding from the police? Did he work for CIA, KGB or the UDBA? Is there any connection between Bob Fleming and Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond?
And what year exactly was this album released?
Only one fact is beyond dipute: This is great para dançar music.
.
EDIT: Thanks to the comment by The Trackfinder who pointed to Memória Musical, the release year of this album is 1962.

Francineth

It should be no secret to those who have the bad habit of travelling through Parallel Realities that I like the forgotten singers like Francineth
As far as I could find out, she recorded one album with Moacyr Silva where she sings 6 tracks (it can be found on Augusto’s Toque Musical, a blog that is No.1 at the moment), one composition on Zito Righi‘s solo album (which can be found on the legendary loronix, which will continue sooner or later with presentations of fantastic music) one compilation of carnaval music (which I have, but without any idea where I have found it) and one single which I have seen on Mercado Livre, but do not have in my collection…
There is one parallel reality though, where an eccentric producer published an album with songs sung by Francineth, disregarding the period or style.
.
Here it is:
.
Francineth:
.
1. Eu Vou Chorar (com Moacyr Silva)
2. Historia (com Zito Righi)
3 Já Passou (com Moacyr Silva)
4 E A Noite Chegou (com Moacyr Silva)
5 Amor Em Video Tape (com Moacyr Silva)
6. Eu Sei (com Moacyr Silva)
7. Meu Mundo E Você (com Moacyr Silva)
.
Bonus Track:
.
8. Carnaval Medley
.
YES, I KNOW, IT IS ANOTHER PARALLEL REALITY PRODUCTION…

Waleska – Na Fossa (1971)

When I downloaded from loronix and heard Waleska‘s live album Na Fossa for the first time, I was quite confident that it is the best music I have ever heard. A long time has passed since that moment, but my impression is still the same.
It is not only Waleska‘s singing, Moacyr Silva‘s saxophone and Ribamar‘s out of this world piano. It is the complete atmosphere of the evening: Enchanting, hypnotic and moving….
I have tried to find this album in a better transfer since, as the loronix version had a lot of noise and some jumps, until finally I received from José Serafim‘s private collection of carefully kept and guarded LPs an Ademar transfer as it is, without any cleaning (it was clean anyway) or track separation: As Lado A and Lado B.
So I am posting it as I have received it. The covers are the same as those in the loronx copy (perfect) as I did not want to bother José to do another scanning.

Moacyr Silva

A short time ago I searched Rapidshare archives and found a file labeled “Moacyr Silva“. I opened it and inside were some 20 compositions performed by the legendary sax player. A quick comparison with my collection of his recordings both as Moacyr Silva and Bob Fleming (all that is on the net) revealed the fact that 11 of the 20 tracks were previously unpublished on any site, blog forum etc…
So here they are wrapped in a cover created at the Parallel Realities Studio:

  1. Preciso Aprender A Ser Só
  2. Este Seu Olhar
  3. O Morro Não Tem Vez
  4. Insensatez
  5. Chove lá Fora
  6. April in Paris
  7. Georgia on My Mind
  8. E Daí
  9. Samba de Verão
  10. Pra Machucar Meu Coração
  11. Dans Mon Ile

Moacyr Silva E Seu Conjunto – Temas Inesquecíveis (1969)

I managed to find this album by Moacyr Silva in the deepest deeps of the internet underground…
But a closer inspection of the tracks revealed the fact that it is a reissue of the album E Tempo de Bolero (1962) allrady posted by loronix, now under a different name. Same tracks in the same order…
.
Tracks:
  1. Stella By Starlight
  2. Laura
  3. Yesterdays
  4. Vous Qui Passez Sans Me Voir
  5. Sophisticated Lady
  6. Theme From Picnic
  7. Tender Is The Night
  8. Tenderly
  9. Time On My Hands
  10. Comme Ci Comme Ça
  11. September Song
  12. Long Ago And Far Away
As the transfer from vinyl that I found has no advantages in quallity compared to the loronix post.I thought that it is pointless to upload it. Instead I uploaded just the front cover in case anybody would like to have it out of irrational reasons.

Moacyr Silva – Olhou pra mim

  1. Olhou pra mim
  2. Vem chegando a madrugada
  3. Pra machucar meu coracao

Waleska – Ao Vivo Na Fossa (1971. parallel reality)

The most exciting live recording that my player has played is Waleska na Fossa, recorded live 1971 at the Fossa club in Rio de Janeiro. Waleska is accompanied by Moacyr Silva (a legend) on tenor sax and Ribamar (another legend) on piano. The complete recording can be downloaded from loronix.
