Paolo Mezzaroma e Orquestra – Amorosamente (1958)

RGE XRLP 5015

Amorosamente, an album that has been on my Santa Claus list since I heard Paolo Mezzaroma‘s violin playing for the first time, completes his (known) career albums.
The story about him (and Simonetti) which can be found on the back cover reads like the synopsis of a BBC romantic period drama starting in Rome at the end of WWII a and continuing in Brazil. I enjoyed it very much and I highly recommend reading it.

Also I highly recommend listening to:

01. Amorosamente (Tito Ribeiro / Carlos Bahr)
02. An Affair To Remember (Harry Warren / Harold Adamson / Leo McCarey)
03. Abismo (Anísio Silva)
04. Insônia (Mário Albanese / Heitor Carillo)
05. Eu Sem Você (Edson Borges / Fausto Guimarães)
06. Se Você Voltar (E. Simonetti)
07. Fascination (Fermo Dante Marchetti)
08. Fracassos de Amor (Tito Madi / Milton Silva)
09. Tema da Meia-noite (Nazareno de Brito)
10. Felicidade Infeliz (Maysa)
11. Viver Sem Você (Fernando César)
12. Relembrando (Paolo Mezzaroma)

Paulo Mezzaroma – Sucessos de Uma Estrela (1957)

Polydor LPN 2020

The first album to present from the just arriving package sent by Pedro & 300discos is a 10′ Lp that has been on my wish list for quite a long time: Violin player Paolo Mezzaroma‘s Sucessos de Uma Estrela.

Paolo Mezzaroma has been featured in this parallel reality with individual songs on compilation albums but never before with a career album.

Here he is, renamed by Polydor from his original Italian name Paolo to Paulo and accompanied by conjunto.

Feeling Romantic? Invite the right person, turn the lights down low and enjoy:

1. Não Tenho Você (Paulo Marques / Ari Monteiro) Samba
2. Acordes Que Choram (Othon Russo / Nazareno de Brito) Samba
3. Sambes Mentir (Othon Russo) Bolero

DISCASTRO by Brasilliance:

This album series is a mystery as Discastro, probably a subsidiary, is a label extremely hard to research. There are at least five volumes of this series, all with very similar though great art work.

Research gives the impression that Vol. 1, 2 and 5 feature colourful mixes of musicians while Vol. 3 and 4 feature only pianist Ruben and sax player Casé. In fact, at least two volumes were issued with different covers and track lists:

LINK 1,      LINK 2,      LINK 3,      LINK 4

Casé’s fine renditions of Carinho e Amor and Se Acaso Você Chegasse presented on this volume are in fact the ones from his 1960 album Samba Irresistível. Therefore, I assume that Grande Baile is a compilation series of previously issued recordings, maybe mixed with unreleased material. I don’t remember when or where but I once found a source claiming that Grande Baile Vol. 3 was released in 1966.

However, this is a series sporting splendid art work on the outside and pleasing sounds on the inside.

Grande Baile Vol. 1 – Disco 1

Discastro GED – 1001

In the latest package sent to us by Pedro & 300discos I found two volumes out of a box set of LPs counting (as far as I could find out) at least tree.

Questions about the release date, Discastro (the recording company) as well as about most of the performers I can not answer.

What I can say is that this, para dançar hand-picked collection of music sounds absolutely according to my taste.

Highly recommended:

01. Fascination (Marchetti)  –  Orquestra Paolo Mezzaroma
02. Love Me Forever (Cuthrie / Lynes)  –  Conjunto de Fred e Richard
03. Os Pobres de Paris (M. Monnot) – Rúben e Conjunto
04. Mocinho Bonito (Billy Blanco) – C. Maffasoli e Conjunto
05. Carioqunha (Waldir Azevedo) – Robledo e Conjunto
06. Saudades da Bahia (Dorival Caymmi) – Casé e Conjunto
07. Estupido Cupido (N. Sedaka / H. Greenfield / F. Jorge) – Willy King e Conjunto

Tarantino e Seu Conjunto Típico – Sambas Em Tango (1960)

RGE XRLP 5086

About Maestro Tarantino I can not say that this is his premiere on Parallel Realities as well as I can not say that it is not, as there was a long time ago repost from Loronix of Maestro Aldo Taranto‘s orchestrated Sonhos, Amor e Violinas (1959).

Memoria Musical lists Maestro Tarantino and Maestro Aldo Taranto as two separate persons which I strongly doubt but there it is.

The back cover text signed with ERI (whoever that may be) started as the usual explaining of music, a practice used for avoiding any mention or details about the main artist and the musicians performing, but surprisingly at the end of the text a list appeared and it goes as follows:

Maestro Tarantino – piano
Elias Stan, Paolo Mezzaroma, Mário Tomasoni e Perez Dworeski – violinos
Alfredo Grossi, Julio Delgado e João Borsari – bandoneons
Valentim Andreotta – baixo

The track list was visible at first glance and here it is reproduced:

01. Me Dá Um Dinheiro Aí (Ivan Ferreira / Homero Ferreira / Glauco Ferreira)
02. Tome Continha de Você (Dolores Duran / Edson Borges)
03. A Noite do Meu Bem (Dolores Duran)
04. Samba de Brasília (Carvalhinho / Geraldo)
05. A Felicidade (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
06. Presidente Bossa Nova (Juca Chaves)
07. Rio de Janeiro (Ary Barroso)
08. Castigo (Dolores Duran)
09. Vem Comigo (Maysa / Henrique Simonetti)
10. Ouça (Maysa)
11. E Daí (Miguel Gustavo)
12. Chão de Estrelas (Sílvio Caldas / Orestes Barbosa)
