Zeze Gonzaga (1956)

Columbia LPCB 35030

This first career album by Zezé Gonzaga has been premiered thanks to Edson Mendes in another parallel reality back i 2009.

Here it is again, together with Edson‘s text about the relese, which goes as follows:

” This is her very first 10” LP, in fact a selection of some of her previous 78 rpm’s releases at Columbia.
Zezé is considered one of the greatest Brazilian singers, a kind of singer of singers – or singer of maestros (she was the preferred one from the great Radamés Gnatalli).
Her brilliant career started at the late forties and continued until the last year, when unfortunately she died at the age of 81.”

The tracks are:

1. Nunca, jamais (Lalo Guerrero – v. Nelson Ferreira)
2. Linda flor (Ai Yoyô) (Henrique Vogeler – Luiz Peixoto – Marques Porto)
3. Uma noite na Praça Paris (Haroldo de Almeida)
4. Oszóiodo peixe (Yvone Rabello)
5. Amando em Paris (Bruno Marnet)
6. Moreno que desejo (Bruno Marnet)
7. Depois de tantos anos (Benny Wolkoff – v. Othon Russo)
8. Arrivederci Roma (R. Rascel – Garinei – Giovannini – v. Julio Nagib)

Lago Azul (1955)

Columbia LPCB 35008

While the ladies Zezé Gonzaga and Ellen de Lima are quite well known, Helena Ribeiro and Mary Duarte are not.
As you might have guessed, my passion for obscure cantoras got inflamed immediately after receiving this various artists Columbia showcase and hearing them sing and the search for more songs by them or at least more information started.
The results are as follows: Helena Ribeiro has participated on three more various artists compilations and has released two 78 rpm albums, while Mary Duarte (or Mari Duarte) has, beside the album presented today, two more various artists compilations (listed under Mari Duarte) and 12 78 rpm records from 1951 to 1956 (listed under Mary Duarte).
Possibly there is more and hopefully we will sooner of later have the chance to enjoy also other songs by both of them.

Of course, beside the four above mentioned ladies, the other four tracks are sung by four gentlemen, so the complete list looks like this:

1. Lago Azul (Waldir Rumbelsperger / Walter Gonçalves) Bolero – Ellen de Lima
2. Tu Só Tu (Carolina Cardoso de Menezes / Armando O. Fernandes) Samba-canção – Cauby Peixoto
3. Teu Olhar (Marco Antônio Prates) Samba-canção – Helena Ribeiro
4. Mar Negro (Am Schwarzen Meer) (Léo Rodi / Vrs. Haroldo Barbosa) Tango – Déo
5. Sorri (Smile) (Charles Chaplin / Geoffrey Parsons / John Turner / Vrs. João de Barro) Beguine – Ivan de Alencar
6. Sedução (Carlito / Nazareno de Brito) Samba – Zezé Gonzaga
7. Canção Sem Nome (Renato de Oliveira) Samba-canção – Carlos Henrique
8. Valsa Do Adeus (R. Burns / Vrs. Juvenal Fernandes) Valsa – Mary Duarte

Zezé Gonzaga – Vivo a cantar (1957)

As announced yesterday, here is the other LP by Zezé Gonzaga, found in the Santa Claus package sent by Edson Mendes.
As the previous, this one is also lacking the original cover, so a trip to a parallel reality positioned close to the one I was visiting last time was unavoidable.
Everything turned out to be similar, if not quite the same, in both parallel realities.
.
The differences are:
.
1. This time the original 10-inch career album (Columbia LPCB 35044) was enriched with 4 bonus tracks.
.
2. The suspicious Serbian who designed the cover fled to Brasil to avoid extradition to Sweden, on rape charges made by two Swedish ladies he was dating regularly for a not so short period of time.
.
While recovering from shock while trying to help the police, calm your nerves by listening to:
.
01. Não sonhe comigo (Fernando César)
02. Ama-me amor (Amami se vuoi) (M. Panzeri – V. Mascheroni, Versão de Waldir Cardoso)
03. Saia do caminho (Evaldo Ruy – Custódio Mesquita)
04. Um milhão de vezes não (Alberto Paz – Carlos Monteiro de Souza)
05. Concerto de outono (Concerto d’autunno) (Danpa – C. Bargoni, Versão de Julio Nagib)
06. Tédio (Fernando César – Nazareno de Brito)
07. Vivo a cantar (Cícero Nunes – Bruno Marnete)
08. Tiritomba (Henze – Göhler – Braun, Versão de Cauby de Brito)
.

Música e romance na voz sentimental de Zezé Gonzaga (1955)

In our reality, this album (a 10-inch, Sinter SLP 1046) by Zezé Gonzaga containing songs previously released as 78 from 1952 to 1954 was published in 1955 (Cantoras de Brasil dated it as 1958).
Santa Claus, mistaking me for a good boy, reads my wish list quite often and in a package together with the other one by Zezé that is on the same list, I received this rarity delivered to me by his business associate Edson Mendes.
If you ask how the original cover looks like, I will not have an answer as not even a thumbnail of it can be found on the net or anywhere else.
Fortunately there is an infinite number of realities existing parallel to ours, some of which are better to be avoided, as well as others that are my favorite tourist attractions.
For example, the reality where I found this cover, offered also two bonus tracks. Reading a magazine I found in the record store provided an inexplicable coincidence: Covering the release of this recording by Zezé Gonzaga, it mentioned that the producer’s name is Edson Mendes. Clearly the name is very similar, if not the same, as the name of my friend, Edson Mendes
Driven by curiosity, I read the article to the end only to find that the cover art was done by a suspicious character, a certain Filip Milanović (a name which is an exact opposite of my name), who fled to Brasil in order to avoid extradition, related to a bank robbery in Seattle back in 1950.
.
Become Sherlock Holmes and solve the mysterious bank robbery while at the same time enjoying the music listed as follows:
.
01. Velha Canção (Hush a Bye) (Jeelin – Fain – Vrs. Clímaco César) (1954)
02. Folhas Mortas (Autuum Leaves) (Kosma – J. Prevert, Versão de Clímaco César) (1954)
03. Meu Sonho (Pedroca – Alberto Ribeiro) (1954)
04. A Saudade É Mulher (Carlos Monteiro de Souza) (1953)
05. Festa de Aniversário (Joubert de Carvalho) (1952)
06. Abre Teus Olhos (Gilberto Panicali – Clímaco César) (1953)
07. É Sempre o Papai (Miguel Gustavo) (1953)
08. Um Dia Em Paquetá (Claudionor Cruz – Alberto Costa) (1952)
.
Bonus tracks:
.
09. Foi você (Enio Santos – Paulo Cesar) (1951)
10. Meu coração é seu (With a song in my heart) (Richard Rodgers – Versão de Claribalte Passos) (1952)

Zezé Gonzaga (1956)

Santa Claus does it again:
Edson Mendes sent me this rarity, never published before on the net. Here is a short text by Edson which accompanies the perfect vinyl rip and cover scans:
.
This is her very first 10” LP, in fact a selection of some of her previous 78 rpm’s releases at Columbia.
Zezé is considered one of the greatest Brazilian singers, a kind of singer of singers – or singer of maestros (she was the preferred one from the great Radamés Gnatalli).
Her brilliant career started at the late forties and continued until the last year, when unfortunately she died at the age of 81.
.
Tracks:
1. Nunca, jamais (Lalo Guerrero – v. Nelson Ferreira)
2. Linda flor (Ai Yoyô) (Henrique Vogeler – Luiz Peixoto – Marques Porto)
3. Uma noite na Praça Paris (Haroldo de Almeida)
4. Os “zóio” do peixe (Yvone Rabello)
5. Amando em Paris (Bruno Marnet)
6. Moreno que desejo (Bruno Marnet)
7. Depois de tantos anos (Benny Wolkoff – v. Othon Russo)
8. Arrivederci Roma (R. Rascel – Garinei – Giovannini – v. Julio Nagib)
