Sandra (A Voz Balanco) – Samba 35 MM (1961)

PAWAL ST-P-70016 (Stereo version)

One of the first albums ever that I have found on Loronix was Sandra‘s only career album. I also re-posted it from Loronix into another reality some 5-6 years ago. Last night I received it in a STEREO version from Edson Mendes, accompanied with a text about Sandra and some additional infromation about this album as well as two bonus tracks.

Here is Edson‘s complete text:

Sandra was a night club singer that sang with pianist and composer Newton Mendonça in boites such La Boheme and Carroussel, in Copacabana (RJ). She also worked at Djalma Ferreira‘s Drink.

With this album Samba 35mm, Sandra won the “Sambista – singer female newcomer” award from the Brazilian Association of Record Critics in 1961. But a few days before receiving the award in December of that year, Sandra died in a car crash. The cab she was traveling in skidded on the streetcar rails in Vila Isabel and crashed into a lamp-post.

As a highlight, this disc features two exclusive compositions by Newton Mendonça: “Nuvem” (the only one recording) and “O Tempo não Desfaz” (released in the previous year by singer Geny Martins).

01. Caminhando  (Luis Bandeira)
02. Dói… Dói… Dói…  (João Mello)
03. Tão Bom  (Hercílio Silva – Edgardo Luiz)
04. O Tempo Não Desfaz  (Newton Mendonça)
05. Devagar Com A Louça  (Luis Reis – Haroldo Barbosa)
06. Era Bom  (Hianto de Almeida – Macedo Netto)
07. Se Você Gostou  (Fernando Cesar – Carlos Imperal)
08. A Sandália Da Nêga (a.k.a. Deixa a Nega Gingar)  (Luiz Claudio)
09. Sem Bossa  (Wenceslau Netto)
10. Luluzinha Bossa Nova  ( Ronaldo Boscoli – Roberto Menescal)
11. O Maioral  (Sylvio Vianna)
12. Nuvem  (Newton Mendonça)

Bonus tracks (from Celso Murilo‘s album Férias no Drink – Pawal 20014 -1961):

13. Menino desce daí (Paulinho Nogueira)
14. Chiclete com banana (Gordurinha – Almira Castilho)

Technical data (incomplete):

Produção: Américo Raimundo Nogueira Lima
Arranjos: Celso Murilo e Marco Ruppi
Piano e órgão: Celso Murilo
Baixo: Tião Marinho
Bateria: Fernando Careca
Saxofone: Marco Ruppi

IN STEREO

Créditos: Edson Mendes

TRIVIA FOR THE DISTINGUISHED CONNAISSEUR by Brazilliance:
Tenor saxophonist Marco Ruppi aka Marko Rupe reutilized all arrangements except “Nuvem” the following year on the album Sambalanço credited as Orquestra Moderna de Sambas. For comparison you may listen here and here.
More of Sandra’s fine talent can be found on Celso Murilo’s ISTO É O DRINK from 1960 with her performing exquisite renditions of Poema das Mãos and A Tua Volta.

A Turma do Bom Balanco (1965)

Mocambo LP 40262

While preparing the re-uploads of music by K-Ximbinho, I found inside the “K-Ximbinho” folder on the backup disc on which I stored albums received from Pedro & 300discos also this album together with the text below, prepared for creating a post. As I could not remember that I have posted this album, I checked all my sites and ideed, it is nowhere to be found. Also, it is presented differently than usual, having just the front cover and neither back caver nor label scans.

In short, I do not know:

1. Where this album came from
2. Why, although I have prepared it for posting, I failed to do so
3. Why have I forgotten all about it

It is clear that you can not know the answer to questions 2 and 3, but there is a possibility that you might have the answer to question 1, so if you know where it might be from, please tell me, so I can write it in the credits below the post.

Or just clear the confusion I created with my personal dilemma by relaxing and enjoying:

Roberto Rutz – Licao de Ritmo (N/D)

Damic LPM 5044

If I would say that I know anything about Roberto Rutz, then I am sure that I would be immediately identified as a liar.
But I can safely add to the confusion by mentioning the fact that Memoria Musical lists under Roberto Rutz only one album with 12 tracks, also called Órgão e Ritmo (Damic LPM 5042).
The similarity is that both albums have no known release date. On the other hand the track lists are completely different.

For example, these compositions are not featured on the LPM 5042:

1. Pergunte Ao João (Swing / Helena Silva)
Cadé o Pandeiro (Roberto Martins / Wilfrido Silva)
Se Quiser Pode Ir (José Batista / João da Silva / Arthur Montenegro)
Com Luiz Bandeira e Côro

4. Pourquoi? (Essa Nêga sem Sandália) (Caco Velho / Jadir de Castro)
Deixa Amanhecer (Jamelão Carrapinho / Rossini)
Tamborim (Carlos Barroso / Humberto Teixeira)
Com Luiz Bandeira e Côro

3. Menino Desce Daí (Paulinho Nogueira)
Com Sandra e Côro

4. Corcovado (A. C. Jobim)

5. Arrivederci Roma (Rascel / Giovannini / Garinel / C. Sigman)

6. Almost like being in love (F. Lewe / Lerner)

7. Silbando Mambo (Perez Prado)

8. Chiclete com Banana (Gordurinha – Almira Castilho)
Com Sandra e Côro

Celso Murilo – Tremendo Balanco (1964)

Odeon MOFB 3390

By now it should be obvious that the latest package sent by Pedro & 300discos contains the complete of career albums that Celso Murilho has recorded under his (real?) name Celso Murilho. Unfortunately his album Mr. Ritmo did not pass the digital fingerprints test and was immediately deleted by Depositfiles‘ server, so I can not post it. About Mr. Ritmo you may read Zeca‘s text reprinted on Órfãos do Loronix, but I am not sure if the link to download it works as Google gives a warning about detected malware or similar when clicking it. Tremendo Balanço on the other hand, may be enjoyed without risks while simultaneously reading Zeca‘s text on Órfãos do Loronix.

As usual in such cases here is the list of musicians:

Celso Murilo (Piano, Órgão)
Astor (Trombone
Édson Machado (Bateria)
Gabriel (Baixo)

And the tracklist:

01. Vai Menina (Nilo Sérgio)

Celso Murilo Orgao e Ritmo – Ritmos Na Passarela (1961)

Pawal P-20.003

Lots of people have been complaining lately that this parallel reality is too clear, straight and sober and that it is impossible to encounter any confusion or similar…

Well, I am determined to keep it that way!

Here is another example of clarity:

To read Zeca‘s text about this album, which is a Pedro transfer, but was posted as a Loronix transfer on Loronix four years ago, you may turn your attention to Órfãos do Loronix where the text will be re-printed, but not before Sunday, August 02, 2009.

You do not have to wait until August 02. 2009 to enjoy Celso‘s performing of the compositions listed below. On the contrary, you are invited to enjoy them starting from now on, until one gray morning you notice that the link turned into the horrifying DOWNLOAD YESTERDAY advice:

01. Poema do Adeus (Luis Antônio)
02. Look For A Star (Michael Antony)
03. Fiz o Bobão (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
04. Cariñito (Humberto Garin)

Celso Murilo – Ferias No Drink (1962)

Pawal P-20.014

After posting Celso Murilo‘s debut album and asking a naive question about Angela or not Angela on the front cover, I got no answer to that dilemma.
On the other hand, I received today a package from Pedro & 300discos containing some missing recordings by the great organ player.

Among other, his Férias No Drink from 1960 with:

01. Pergunte ao João (Helena Silvia / Milton Costa)
02. Cadê o Pandeiro (Roberto Martins / Valfrido Silva)
03. Se Quiser Pode Ir (José Batista / João da Silva / Arthur Montenegro)
04. Pourquoi (Essa Nega Sem Sandália) (Caco Velho / Jadir de Castro)

Great album!

Celso Murilo e Seu Ritmo – Sambas na Passarela (1961)

Pawal P-20.002

Thanks to Andreas Dünnewald, the author of the book: Brazilliance – Record Covers of Brazil (1952-1977), I am gradually nearing the 18+ tag for Parallel Realities. Yesterday he sent me this rarity wrapped in countless beautiful and not too heavily dressed ladies, fronted by Angela Maria or a lookalike of hers.
After hours of staring at the artwork, I also found time to listen to organ player Celso Murilo‘s debut album, recorded in 1961.

You may do the same. Above is the front cover and below are the compositions performed:

01. Boato (João Roberto Kelly)
02. Atire A Primeira Pedra (Ataulfo Alves / Mário Lago)
03. Murmúrio (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio)
04. Jarro da Saudade (Mirabeau / Daniel Barbosa / Geraldo Blota)
05. Samba Triste (Baden Powell / Billy Blanco)
06. Samba na Passarela (Luis Gonçalves / Nilton Valle)
07. Guarde A Sandália Dela (Germano Mathias / Sereno)
08. Volta (Djalma Ferreira / Luiz Bandeira)
09. Dizem Por Aí (Manoel da Conceição / Alberto Paz)
10. Fica Comigo (Luis Antônio)
11. A Fonte Secou (Monsueto / Tufic Lauar / Marcléo)
12. Zelão (Sérgio Ricardo)

Distracted, I almost forgot to mention the musicians:

Celso Murilo (Órgão, Piano)
Geraldo (Violão)
Célio (Baixo)
Bituca (Bateria)
Rubens (Pandeiro)
Cazuza (Cuíca),
Humberto (Agogô)
Wayne (Tamborim)
Pedro e Gilberto (Caixeta)

Confused, I almost forgot to write the appropriate link:

Angela or not Angela, that is now the question.

MORE REALITIES by Brazilliance

Some trivia unveiled to add some more realities:

Nine songs from this album were reissued on Conjunto Balambossa’s “Samba ao Vivo” (Coledisc CD012): Samba Triste, Boato, Volta, Murmúrio, Dizem Por Aí, Fica Comigo, Falsa Baiana, Fiz o Bobão and Zelão. The rest of “Samba ao Vivo” was compiled from Celso Murilo’s “Órgão e Ritmo” aka “Convida a Dançar” (1963, Moeda Quebrada, O Amor em Paz) and Fats Elpidio’s “Samba da Madrugada” (1962, Na Roda do Samba).

Five songs from this album, Samba Triste, Quem Manda na Minha Vida, Volta, Boato and Zelão, were also compiled on the uncredited album “Samba Exportação” (Itamaraty ITAM-7079, c. 1970) which also contains songs from Celso Murilo’s “Ritmos na Passarela” and “Ferias no Drink
