Jose Mauro – Obnoxius (1970)

Quartin LP RSQ 1

This album has been presented here some one and a half years ago. The link has recently expired, but I have received it once more from Pedro & 300discos.
Instead of writing a new post, I have brought forward the previous and it goes like this:

About José Mauro, presented for the first time on Parallel Realities with the first of his two career albums, I can not tell you much more than you may read on the back cover.

You may, first of all, find the list of participants which is full of renowned, well known names:

Maurílio: Trompete
Paulo Moura: Sax alto
Altamiro Carrilho: Flauta
Rildo Hora: Gaita
Dom Salvador: Órgão, Piano, Cravo
Geraldo Vespar: Guitarra
José Mauro: Violão
Sebastião Marinho: Baixo
Juquinha e Mamão: Percussão
Wilson das Neves: Bateria
Naipe de Corda de Roberto Quartin
Arranjos e Regências: Gaya
Produção e Direção: Roberto Quartin

Also, you may find the list of tracks, all of them composed by José Mauro and Ana Maria Bahiana:

01. Obnóxius (José Mauro / Ana Maria Bahiana)
02. Tarde de Núpcias (José Mauro / Ana Maria Bahiana)
03. Memória (José Mauro / Ana Maria Bahiana)
04. Ponte de Chamada (José Mauro / Ana Maria Bahiana)
05. As Aventuras Sentimentais de Espiroqueta Camargo (José Mauro / Ana Maria Bahiana)
06. Talismã (José Mauro / Ana Maria Bahiana)
07. Arraial da Lua Cheia (José Mauro / Ana Maria Bahiana)
08. Ancoradouro (José Mauro / Ana Maria Bahiana)
09. Canção da Casa Iluminada (José Mauro / Ana Maria Bahiana)
10. Apocalipse (José Mauro / Ana Maria Bahiana)
11. Exaltação e Lamento do Último Rei (José Mauro / Ana Maria Bahiana)

On the other hand, you will not find an explicit statement about who is singing, although, as far as the male voice is concerned, it is clear that it must be José Mauro. For the female voice occasionally featured on some tracks, my guess is that it is probably Ana Maria Bahiana who is also suspected of being the girl standing next to José Mauro on the front cover photograph.

As expected you will find a meaningless text, which is leading to the album:

COMMENTS AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION by Nilton Antonio Rodreigues Maia:

Concerning the music authors, José Mauro (melodies) and Ana Maria Bahiana (lyrics):

José has rare references. In contrast, Ana Maria is one of our best music journalists:

ANA MARIA BAHIANA (Ana Maria Pereira Bahiana) was born in 1950, in Rio de Janeiro. She lives in Los Angeles (USA).
She is a journalist and writer. Her specialities are Cinema and Popular Music. She has a career of more than 30 years and she wrote six books about Culture and Popular Music.
Presently, she works as Cinema reviewer of “Just Seen It” program (PBS television network) and has a UOL blog about Culture.

About the photo in the cover, I believe you are right.

I have confirmed in the blog SOUL ART that the singer is José Mauro.
But the female voice remains a mystery. Although Ana Maria isn’t a singer, perhaps she could be the female voice in LP.
I’ll try to contact her to clarify this point.
In the post comments, I had the good surprise to know José Mauro was alive at that date- 4/30/2014 – and living in Rio de Janeiro. The comment was posted by José Mauro‘s brother named Marcelo.

CONFIRMATION by Frank-Oliver:

I asked Ana Maria Bahiana over Facebook and she answered the following:

“I am the girl singer.
I am also the lyricist on all tracks, the author of the liner notes and the Person behind him on the cover.
Jose Mauro is very much alive, although in so health and living in Rio de Janeiro.”
