Неlen Меrrill is one of the greatest jazz stylists, with a cool voice, sensitive feeling, a wonderful repertoire and a recording career spanned to more than six decades. Меrrill’s actual name is Јelena Аna Milčetić. She was born in New York City 1930 to Croatian immigrant parents and started to sing in jazz clubs at the age of fourteen. In 1954 she recorded her first of more than fifty LPs.
She toured worldwide and is specially known in Italy and Japan, where she lived for a few years.
During her extensive career she was very linked to the Brazilian music, always including some Brazilian tunes in her recordings. Неlen’s singing style is very close to the bossa nova songs, in despite of her not so good Portuguese accent…
